Anyone concerned about the durability of these things? $40 is a lot of money for a microphone IMO and if it won't last more than a couple of years I feel like I should look for other options. I've heard some people complaining about the build quality of ModMics so I'm a little worried.

redsevnThe biggest problem with the old modmics was the brass boom arm. It looked nice but made it rather fragile. The 4.0 dropped the thin brass boom for a thicker flex boom it doesn't look as good, but it's not near as brittle or prone to kinking.
Granted for the money a breakaway cable or MDPC/Kevlar sleeved cable would be nice.

redsevnI've had an original ModMic (same type of boom as this one) for about 3 years now. Still works perfectly. Can't speak for the mic capsule since they've changed that, but everything else is solid. I've run over the cable with my chair, yanked it pretty hard by accident and it's survived everything.

redsevnwhat i have heard this is one of the best options for external mics, but i cant be sure. getting mine here too. but check out linustechtips or tec syndicates review. i believe them when they say its really good. build quality is better on the 4.0 than on the 2.3 so that's probably where the complaints are coming from. but as always with online shopping, do some research and don't trust a single review. except Linus, he is god almighty, bringer of death, creator of life and all knowing distributor of knowledge and understanding. his word shall spread across the worlds as it brings warmth to hearts. his unbiased teachings shall rid the earths of heresy and lies of the tyranny of evil men. if you welcome linus into your heart completely and without compromise, his teachings will Shepherd you trough life as a kind angel guiding you trough a valley of peace and harmony. but the ignorance of linuism will grant you only agony and pain.
