Living with regulateur timepieces: 👍. I won't bore you with the history of these types of timepieces but there was a time where regulateur clocks were regularly referenced to keep other timepieces adjusted for accuracy. Some old school collectors still seek out these types of clocks for keeping their pieces' times sunchronized. So—instead—I will bore you with other stuff…! In 2013, an AD friend of mine sent me the earlier Bomb Timer version of this watch—sight unseen—for my approval/interest. (I used to do write-ups for his used watch catalogue.) I wouldn't have called it 'pretty' but it had this aura of competence about it. I think I eventually parted with around $4,500(CAD) for the privilege…

Wear was surprisingly comfortable due in part to the way the lugs allow it to conform to any wrist size or shape. The flexibility of the bi-directional rotating bezel was great for timing tasks, which was important in the line of work I was in at the time. As well, the feel and movement of the bezel were just about perfect for my tastes. As reviewers at the time noted, having the focus of the watch on the passage of minutes is extremely effective for task-specific time management. My only real issue with this layout had more to do with execution versus concept: if B&R shifted their focus from making a fashion statement to increasing legibility and task-specific practicality, I would still be wearing it today. For instance, I would cheerfully offer my left nut for bolder (and bright, bright white) font, indices, and hand for the minutes, leaving seconds and hours as-is. For anything related to minutes, scrap the faux-aged orangey colour (faint lume appears green) for bright white or near white with more effective and extremely bold blue and/or green luminous output. (Bring in the lume-ologists!!! Or Bruce Wayne. Blue glow for the central minute hand and the 12 o'clock index on the dial and the bezel, please). Otherwise, the case's earth-toned PVD is pretty much perfect. The dial and subdials are dark but not black and I have attached this photo so you can experience it yourself…

The graining of the enamel surface is sublime, as well as the circular graining of the subdials. It really is almost 'gross' at a distance, yet exquisite up very close… The Officer variant on offer promises a rich black enamelled dial that will likely be as beautifully and lovingly rendered. And I look forward to the new model's crown being back on the right side, thereby swapping the seconds dial to the bottom and placing the hour subdial up top—where it should be (sayeth myself and God). So…I should apologize for dragging you all down this particular watch-shaped rabbit-hole with me but I sincerely hope you had at least more than half the fun that I did! Regulateurs are not for everyone but if you have even just a spark of interest in something a wee bit 'different'—and don't mind 're-homing' $1,629—you will NOT be disappointed with this watch.
