Why is a reduced FOV (viewing angle) considered an improvement? Wouldn't you want the widest possible viewing angle?

Wilconot sure if you got an answer but I think its so that you can aim the camera more dead-center in the hopes that you'll catch a useable license plate frame. If the angle was wider, with the same sensor, you would have more pixelation dead center/more distortions on the edges. Just my 2cents
