"All audio equipment needs opamps" My mic preamps, guitar amp, power amplifier and 24 channel inline mixer (save for the headphone amp) beg to differ. Op amps are one way of doing things. The cheap way. Many of the tasks that are done by op amps are better done with discrete components. The major difference is that you can use a pic and place machine and wave soldering to assemble a complicated audio component with op amps in seconds. Using discrete transistors and their associated passive components takes much longer. Besides that I am ROFLing at $25 op amps. I'll stick to my mere Burr-Brown ICs. They positively kill given a good clean power supply.

CalaverasgrandeTo demonstrate the point Calaverasgrande made: Topping D10 Opamp rolling results: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/rolling-replacing-op-amps-in-topping-d10-dac.4576/ Gustard H20 (a high quality amp to really demonstrate potential scalibility if the D10 wasn't a good example): https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/rolling-op-amps-in-gustard-h20-headphone-amplifier.7407/ Nothing...
JJayJJThe only places I’ve seen op amp swaps make a difference; When going from a TL0 series to a Burr Brown or a 5532 in the channel summing amp of a multichannel mixer. Or in a distortion box like a Tube Screamer or a Rat. In most circuits they are designed to hit a certain window of specs. While an opamp might go into the MHz range on its data sheet, the inherent design of components around it won’t allow it to reach so high. Likewise slew rate, an often misused term, is also tied to power supply. Noisy or spongy power rails will inhibit good sound more than opamps. Ironically I have often liked cheaper TL062/64 opamps better in some applications. They have lower power demands, and aren’t trying to reproduce dc to microwave frequencies. Sometimes they are just right.

Calaverasgrandeswapped the default primary opamp in the xonar hdav for a pair of opa627 in an adapter - way better bass and stage then swapped for the v5i, and the bass was tighter and the sound stage even wider tried the v5 dual and it wasn't as good - obviously the match with the v5i was a lucky fluke... but imho (and with much listening), the v5i is a substantial upgrade in the right situation ymmv

CalaverasgrandeLately i found ada4627/4637 splendid opamps as opa627/637 upgrades (as an adi version of these parts and drop in replacement). These come with a fraction of what TI asks for, bu deliver more! I put a pair in Pete Millett Butte and it significantly improved performance, triumphed sparkos ss3601 in the same spot. I also ordered some ADA4898 but I haven’t received from Digikey yet. as for pro gear, it’s probably hard to beat api 25x0 series. I can see those being widely used but I don’t have anything that accepts one....
