Once again, Cold Steel doesn't fail to deliver the cringe ๐Ÿ™„ lol Opening scene of the video on their site for this knife is showing you can stab a man (ballistic dummy with blood packs) 5 times per second in the stomach with this blade, before turning his throat to ribbons, and then poke the brain through the eye sockets for good measure ๐Ÿ˜• Seriously, does any other company specifically market knives in a way that highlights their tire slashing ability (just in case they try to run), and show off how you can cut your way in through someone's metal garage door so you can kill them in their own home? Fuckin' hell man.... they actually have a few pieces I like, but I just can't bring myself to buy any more. I feel like having had a body in your freezer is a prerequisite to working there

KavikBeen disgusted by their marketing for years. I could just see an attorney rolling those videos for a jury--Cold Steel wouldn't stand a chance! Only thing I ever purchased from them were kitchen knives many years back. Good knives for the purpose, just embarrassed about where they came from!

RayFThat would be a funny sight to see lol Only thing I have of theirs currently is the clip point SRK. At the insistence of a friend, not due to their marketing selling me on it ๐Ÿ™„

KavikDon't worry about the marketing, if the product is good it doesn't need to be sold. And the product is good. Video games market more violence then these videos, are you boycotting them also.

GoatbabyIf the product is good enough that they don't NEED that marketing, then all the more reason NOT to perpetuate the negative stereotypes of knives being nothing but stabby slashy murder weapons for mall cop types who, for some reason, have to be packing in their youtube knife demonstrations, don't you think? A video game never stabbed anyone, and doesn't make people look at me like a criminal for having a knife showing in my pocket. If the day ever comes that people start slashing others with video game CD's, and a company starts advertising how their discs slice cleaner through dead animals and ballistic dummies? Yeah, i'd stop buying their games.

KavikI agree, however have you seen the Christchurch terrorist attack? It is Call of duty 101 and I believe a lot of the younger population has systematically been desensitized to gun violence through this. Quick question why do you carry a knife such as this in public? Would a swiss army knife not suffice? Please elaborate on what this item would be used for if not defence and hunting.

GoatbabyOh, i think they're desensitized for a lot of reasons, video games being only a part of it. But that's a whole big can of worms I'm way too tired to get into here and now Me? And this knife? Personally I wouldn't use it for anything. They have some models though that I would consider if it weren't for the "CS Cringe"โ„ข This probably makes one helluva letter opener though ๐Ÿ˜ Fun fact: my gf actually owns the cheaper version of this knife. The plastic handle one, i forget the steel type, 4" blade if memory serves. As a female in a not so great city, she chose it specifically because it looked intimidating to her. (Luckily she never had to test that theory) Suffice it to say, it's never seen any hard use of any kind. But when I looked it over, that reputation of being overbuilt and durable was nowhere to be found

KavikOk so I just watched the video in question and I have to agree it's incredibly disturbing. Apologies with the video games etc. My intention was perspective however I first should have viewed the video in question. I also want this because of the intimidation factor and hope that I would never have to use it to defend myself, but if I do at least I know I can decapitate people thanks to the cold steel video. I might get a different knife. Cudos for being so diplomatic my intention was not to troll. Hope you have a good day.

KavikCold steels terrible marketing aside, they do make good quality, very strong folders for a decent price and with good ergos like the Code 4, american lawman, recon1, voyager series are all exceptional values. Im carrying the american lawman in XHP right now. The triad lock is arguably the strongest on the market. The ad10 and ad15 are very nice also but more pricey.

CdoyleMy personal experience with their products is very limited. As I mentioned above, I only have one of their fixed blades myself...it seems fine. Nothing bad, nothing exceptional. And my only hands on experience with their folders was the one I mentioned above, my girlfriend's knife, the cheaper version of this one. A knife that's seen nothing more strenuous than opening packages, yet it was stiff to open and the liner lock would either barely engage, or it would jam so tight she couldn't unlock it. When she finally let me play with it i had to dismantle everything, reshape the bent lockbar, and clean up the rough surfaces on both the face of the lock and where it met the blade. Issues aside, once it was all fixed and put back together, didn't look or feel any more or less special than any other liner lock I've owned/handled/taken apart

KavikI own a cs Luzon also and was not impressed with it but would consider it a budget knife. I would recommend checking out a little nicer model like the code 4 or american lawman. S35vn and under $100 w triad locks. Both great edcs. If you can find an older model they were in CTS XHP. Very good value for the price point and both are slim at 3/8" thick so they carry well but are full sized at 3.5" blades and have a good weight, not heavy at all. I think it would be hard to find as much knife for the price of $70-$80.

KavikI totally agree. That is truly over the top. I donโ€™t look for knives for there ability to kill on the offensive side. If I happen to get attacked (which most likely never happen) the knife in my pocket can stab and cut too.

KavikTruth is any folding knife is one of the worst choices for self defense one can make. It surprises me how few people know that. That being said its all about marketing. And this appeals to the demographic of people who are buying knives in this price range while at the same time demonstrating its quality and features. But i think most people who agree with you on this would do the same after you spent the time and money to develop and produce a product.

TxpipelnrI agree. I carry mine as tools, but wouldn't pull it out for self defense unless I was certain I had no other options and it was a last ditch sort of scenario. Sorry, but I'm not sure what you mean by the following? "But i think most people who agree with you on this would do the same after you spent the time and money to develop and produce a product." Can you elaborate?

GoatbabyVideo games are for kids. If you're still playing them, you're way too young for sharp and pointy things like knives. Comeback after puberty :- )

TxpipelnrDisagree strongly about folders! I was recently attacked by a pair of killer Polar bears on my last photo safari in Antarctica. Fortunately, I was carrying my favorite self-defense knife; a Ken Onion design Leek. It was touch and go for a while, but I was eventually able to best those vicious beasts (and later skin them for mukluk liners). No doubt about it--I'd be a deadman if I hadn't be carrying that folder! Was able to snap this photo of the pair, moments before they charged me!

KavikI get where you are coming from on Cold Steels demo videos. I believe most of that is done because its the most effective way to market to their intended demographic. I suspect that most people who share a similar opinion on their videos might market in the most effective way possible after investing in designing and producing a product even if it meant having some dramatic guy stabbing car doors cutting off pig snouts and slashing away at everything in his path.

TxpipelnrThe problem is, it's been pervasive and consistent throughout they're history. Lotta a guys make and sell knives, CS is the only company that's quite so fixated on violence as a measure of utility. Any damn knife can kill someone, but it isn't necessary to demonstrate how, in order to sell one.

TxpipelnrEh, i dunno about that. Plenty of other big knife brands out there spend plenty on design, production, and marketing...without going down that path *shrugs*

RayFI guess its safe to say they did not want their picture taken. Being one of the worst choices does not mean its totally ineffective. There is a video on youtube of a lady fending off an attacker with a rather large rubber dildo she had just purchased. That most definitely is not the best choice for self defense but hey..... you use what you got. I did a post on this very subject not long ago. If you check it out you will see some of the reasons that my opinion is as stated. And its an opinion shared by many if not most self self defense experts. https://drop.com/buy/kershaw-fatback/talk/2411044?utm_source=linkshare&referer=BHFXC8
