I have the most expensive version of this mouse which has 3 ports for exterior buttons. You cannot game reliably with this mouse. You could play the Sims, or a turn based game, but you cannot play a FPS or fast action game like Dota 2 or Starcraft. It is just too difficult to make fast precise movements with your whole hand while clicking on side buttons. If you want to game with a trackball get a thumb ball, however you still will have a hard time.
That said this is my favorite mouse device ever for non gaming applications, including doing some photo shopping. Once you start using this mouse you won't be able to go back to a traditional. Also at $99 you can't pass this up. My one complaint is that this trackball is somewhat louder or rougher than others (does not affect pointing accuracy or smoothness of cursor), but for a good reason. It uses metal rollers that will not gunk up or break from debris. For a smoother trackball you will have to get a trackball that requires often cleaning and care and may break.
Join this drop! I may get a second one it's so cheap.

DrossI play FPS with this just fine. In fact I'm usually in the top on public servers and I think this trackball improved my skills compared to the mouse, after a few days of getting used to it. It's useless for sniper scopes though, but great for fast-paced close-combat with automatic weapons. I recommend setting the sensitivity at the lowest possible setting as well as running the trackball at the lowest DPI setting (hold middle button and cycle between the default 800 DPI setting and the other 1600 and 400 DPI options with right-click).

dag.odenhallHave you ever played Dota 2 before? If you have practiced a lot in FPS with this mouse you should send me a video of you playing Dota 2 with this mouse, even if it is just a bot match. I have had Team Fortress 2 teammates in competitive games that could pull crazy 180 or 360 movements as someone else said in this discussion where they were accused of cheating, but it was with a thumb ball mouse. Again: not knocking this mouse, I just don't want people to be disappointed when they try to game with it. Maybe I just need a Sensei.
