How do you properly clean this mat? I have some black smudges clinging to the material. I don't want to damage the dye/coloring

I’ve had luck with putting it on a cold wash cycle with a little detergent in my washing machine, then air drying overnight. Comes out like new every time and I’ve seen no wear on it from doing it this way. Must’ve washed it over 5x by now.
