This is still my favorite review of the M3 EcoReco:

To be honest, I only get about a 7 mile range on my EcoReco in real-life usage. However, I weigh approximately 230 pounds so a shorter battery life is to be expected.

NonsensicalWow only 7 miles!? That seems low even for that weight. I would expect at least 15 miles... I weigh only 180 so we shall see. Really excited to try this for my city commuting. I want to see how agile I feel being able to just get up and go... Or will it be cumbersome and a hassle to lug around...

NonsensicalUrban Motion in NYC advised that slow and even acceleration, as well as keeping a steady speed will increase the range. One customer improved to over 12 miles from 8 miles by applying this.

ngai61To get the best out of it, I think you literally have to limit yourself to 12.5 mph and simply not stop. Otherwise, if you're maxing it out at all times with lots of stops, 7-8 miles isn't inconceivable. I was down to 2 bars after about 4 miles with 2 months of non-usage, so I'd probably be more towards the lower end of the efficiency scale.

wild_oneI hate to say it, but this has pretty much been my experience as well. I also weigh around 230 pounds (working on getting that down...) and with my typical real-world usage I can get around 7-8 miles on a full charge. I haven't run it all the way down to empty yet for a more precise measurement, but I recently made a 6.0-mile trip and the last bar of the battery was about to disappear by the end of the ride. I do know that even once that last bar disappears you still have 1/6th of the battery left, but I didn't want to push it. I could see getting 20+ miles at a constant cruise on an airport runway or in a gently sloped park trail etc.
For me it's not really a problem, as I live a mere 1.5 miles from my workplace. Just know that the "20 mile range" does require fairly optimistic assumptions about your usage. I still do not regret my purchase in any way.
On the plus side, I'm more motivated than ever to shed a few pounds, so I can enjoy the EcoReco ever so slightly more. So there's that.

NonsensicalI'm already around 150 lbs, so losing more just means better acceleration for me. Just wish I had a tracking number for my M5...
