I assume like most all Emile Henry stuff I've seen it's some sort of stoneware? I've got a smaller gratin/baking dish of theirs which I really like, but I usually avoid stoneware in favour of porcelain (or bone china if it's something that doesn't go in the oven).
Well made porcelain is considerably more resistant to chipping and cracking.

JaggiA very relevant question since the word "ceramic" is also used for materials like Aluminium Oxide and Silicon Carbide.

JaggiI'd describe it as glazed stoneware. Mine arrived smashed to pieces, so I got a close look at the interior. :(
