I see an iPhone's used in the picture. Is that the "maximum" size for the device to be used with it?

So... you actually don't want your phone to be there since once you close it, the music will just blast into your phone. It does show scale though. :p

Actually, you are wrong, andy. The sound comes out of the other side, not the inside. The actual speaker orifice is on the top of the speaker, where the goal zero label is. (I have one.) The sound is actually much better when the flap is closed and it is sitting with the speaker orifice facing upward.

I have used it with my iphone, my android device (razr m) and many other devices, however, with anything larger than an iphone or smaller form factor droid (samsung galaxy s3 _might_ fit) you just have to run the cable out of the zipper.
This is actually an awesome little speaker and the fact that the cabinet is wood really makes the sound great. For a small speaker, it has great range in both highs and lows.
