Does one really need a wrist rest when typing though.

ibakeydepends how long you are using your computer per day.

ibakeykind of depends on if you type normally too. I taught myself to type and I type one handed, so wrist rests really only have a use when I'm gaming because my wrist doesn't rest, lol

ibakeyFor taller mech keyboards, the wristrest is truly functional. It really takes the strain off of reaching for the upper rows of keys and keeps the wrists flat.

Len11I type on an SA row 3 keycaps with about 5 degree tilt on the keyboard without any wrist rest just fine at work. I have a leather wrist rest at home but was wondering if i really need one to justify switching to a nice wooden one.

ibakeyI'd probably just stick with leather or fabric. I use graffiti brand wrist rests myself; they're very comfortable and don't require any upkeep like these wooden ones do (re-oiling periodically).
