peterzhangrnThat is what I thought. No sapphire? just nope... It is a nice watch with a self made movement (as it seems) but how can they sell this watch nowadays with that kind of crystal?

roikatzSapphire is one issue, but I just did a retail price check, you can have it for lower price on Amazon than here...And with that kind of money, you could get a used SpeedMaster https://www.amazon.com/Junghans-Meister-Chronoscope-Chronograph-Automatic/dp/B0015FX5CO/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1482338514&sr=8-15&keywords=junghans+chronoscope

peterzhangrnsorry but that's a completely different watch which you are using for comparison. the meister series offered here is more expensive (higher retail) than the chronoscope which you linked to....

peterzhangrnThe biggest issue if I remember correctly is the fact that Junghans makes their crystals have these large domes which are extremely difficult to make in Sapphire but are a fundamental part to their appeal. Its something Junghans wearers all live with. Also if I remember correctly the replacement crystals are around $70

DoctorDWith ETA movement and no precious metal I think even if it's plexiglass they should lower the price point. Also this is not electronic product or other commodity products where there is little wiggle room. If they advertise $2000 retailer prob get it for $1000, so I'd expect a mass drop price around $1200. I have another dommed glass watch and it works find enough. Here to argue more about ROI

peterzhangrnwhy would you expect massdrop to make $200 on this watch? That's a 16.5% gross margin. That is an absurdly low margin for a retailer and one that would probably put them out of business.

jakenewmanBecause mass drop is not a retailer and doesn't have the overhead cost. And they don't even do much inventory anyways, shipping etc. Are outsourced. So a 16.5% margin for low volume item is pretty fat for not doing anything

peterzhangrn ur funny. i like you! so the mass drop website was built for free, they pay their warehouse, customer service, photography, marketing and management employees peanuts & seashells and they are the first website in history to have a customer acquisition fee of $0.00.

jakenewmanKind sir I agree I am buying a lot of shit from massdrop. I just hoped the European manufacturers can set reasonable prices. I had my eyes on palikan pen (German company ) and my local vendor told me their price went up by 50% in few months. I guess it's to pay for those refugees. Also I have a feeling my post gonna get deleted :P

peterzhangrnOh don't get me wrong I agree that I think their current price point is a bit much considering the circumstances. $1000 fits better than $1600. Personally think their Automatic Max Bills (one sale for about $650-750) are a better product all-round.

DoctorDif its a "value" oriented deal you're looking for the alpnach has a 7750 movement for $450 and the Atlantic has a 2824 movt with sapphire glass for $400 are pretty good. I think with these you either love the style and buy the look or don't. i don't really consider them value buys. DoctorD is right that the auto max bills are a decent deal as well if you want the look but don't want to spend $$$.

peterzhangrnNot sure what you are referring to, but you'd have to be pretty lucky to get a Speedy Pro at this price even used. Maybe you're not referring to the Pro though.
