some_dudeFrom my understanding it's that there is much more assured quality from Edsyn than the other options. This soldering station is apparently very good in quality and has the perfect temperature for leaded solder. From the looks of it, the soldering station takes up 60% of the cost.

some_dudeThis kit does not compromise on quality, like many of the other beginner (read:cheap) kits. I had a cheap soldering iron from radio shack that I used until both tips were completely gone. Now I use a $1400 pace station. I couldn't afford good kit like this when I started, but having it would have made things a lot easier and helped to avoid some scars and mistakes.
The soldapullt, for example, costs like 3 times as much as the cheapest one that will "work" however, I prefer it because of its extreme durability. I have probably cycled it over 10,000 times over the course of several years. Even though I use a nice desodlering vacuum handpiece now, I still use the edsyn soldapullt occasionally, as it's legitimately better for some joints. I also have a hakko 808 but it breaks or jams once every 20 joints or so. I didn't even maintain my soldapullt properly and it just keeps chugging. With proper care and occasional cleaning it'll last you basically forever.
