Anyone having any trouble with their Lumintop? I bought this as a gift to my father and just got a call that he can't charge the included battery. It was supposed to be an 18650 but it appears to be about a 1/4" longer and won't charge in my 18650 charger. Also, the light doesn't appear to accept a standard 18650 battery; my father reports that the light malfunctions. Can someone advise?
I bought mine from Amazon. The included battery is a protected cell, and is thus longer than standard. It charges fine in my BT-C3100 charger, and my reclaimed unprotected laptop cells and Westinghouse (cheapo) 18650s work fine.
Westinghouse cell measures Approx 66.6mm long x 18.2mm dia
Laptop cell 64.9mm x 18.3mm
Lumintop 69.0mm x 18.3mm
(approximate, because I'm not going to short my calipers across the pos and neg terminals!)
Oh, one other thing... are you trying to use a flat-top cell? It definitely seems to need a button-top.
Thanks for the reply. I went for a visit and checked out the problem. The Lumintop is expecting a protected cell with a nub on the positive end. The cell I gave him was an unprotected cell with a smaller nub. It wasn't making proper contact.
I have since build him a protected cell out of the unprotected one and am heading over there to test it. I'll report back.
Yeah, definitely needs a button top.
I turn my flat tops into button tops as needed with a dollop of solder. Easy to do, as long as you use plenty of flux!
