Anyone having any trouble with their Lumintop? I bought this as a gift to my father and just got a call that he can't charge the included battery. It was supposed to be an 18650 but it appears to be about a 1/4" longer and won't charge in my 18650 charger. Also, the light doesn't appear to accept a standard 18650 battery; my father reports that the light malfunctions. Can someone advise?

LJFrenchI bought mine from Amazon. The included battery is a protected cell, and is thus longer than standard. It charges fine in my BT-C3100 charger, and my reclaimed unprotected laptop cells and Westinghouse (cheapo) 18650s work fine.
Westinghouse cell measures Approx 66.6mm long x 18.2mm dia Laptop cell 64.9mm x 18.3mm Lumintop 69.0mm x 18.3mm
(approximate, because I'm not going to short my calipers across the pos and neg terminals!)

LJFrenchOh, one other thing... are you trying to use a flat-top cell? It definitely seems to need a button-top.

LJFrenchThanks for the reply. I went for a visit and checked out the problem. The Lumintop is expecting a protected cell with a nub on the positive end. The cell I gave him was an unprotected cell with a smaller nub. It wasn't making proper contact.
I have since build him a protected cell out of the unprotected one and am heading over there to test it. I'll report back.
Thanks again!

LJFrenchI turn my flat tops into button tops as needed with a dollop of solder. Easy to do, as long as you use plenty of flux!
