Which gain option would be better suited to the HD6XX's?
YouGotRiotedThe Sennheiser 650 is a 300 ohm headphone.

YouGotRiotedonly reason to do the lower gain option is if you use in ear monitors.

YouGotRiotedIn my experience, with the standard gain version (2.5/6.5), both gain settings are ok for the HD6xx, depending on the input (I most often use my Onkyo's line out / zone 2 output which is a 1V output, but I also use my dragonfly Red's 2v output on occasions). With a 2v device, I would only use the lower 2.5 gain setting. However, with my Onkyo Network receiver plugged as an input device to my O2, surprisingly I more often use the lower 2.5 gain setting, less often the 6.5 gain setting, even with a 1V output from my Onkyo, since I do not listen to music at very high levels most of the time. If you buy the medium gain version (1.0/3.3), I would then guess that the proper setting is the 3.3 gain for the HD6xx.

YouGotRiotedThe gains settings are entirely dependant on your source Vrms output. What's your planned sources?

SAFETYpinMaybe a mix of soundcard output (3.5mm to RCA) and the RCA output on a USB DAC?

YouGotRioted The 3.5mm out is probably going to <~1Vrms so should work well with the 6.5x high gain and most non portable DACs are ~2Vrms out so 3.3x-2.5x on low. The standard option should have you covered.

SAFETYpinGreat, thanks for that. Just ordered the standard option.
YouGotRiotedThis is the option that I ordered as well, what with my taste for high impedance cans.... Listening to Fink this morning...it will be interesting to compare these selections across my various gear, see how this amp fares. The acoustic work in his musics can be SUBLIME.
