I notice that these are not made in Minnesota, USA, but China - according to the mass drop specs. Designed in Minnesota, Made in China if you prefer.

kangsterYes, that's been covered in the discussion already :-) if you go to Enlightened Equipment's website and buy an off-the-shelf bag instead of custom, you will notice the bags are sewn in China and filled in Minnesota. These Massdrop ones are being made by same manufacturer in China. You can always pay a bit more & get 850 fill & 100% US manufacturing :-) Personally, I think the bags sewn-in-China is a great way to increase their ability to meet demand. Now, if they shut down Minnesota mfg. and moved everything overseas I wouldn't be happy. But they aren't :-) p.s. Winona, MN is a beautiful little town, if you ever have a chance to get there. Scenic 2 hr riverfront drive south from Mpls/St Paul.

CardamomteaI don't actually mind made in China per se otherwise. I have MN-made versions myself though, so far. My point was more that it's quite misleading as it all says it's from MN, except where technically required. I didn't even notice the off-the-selves bags were not made in MN (again though I've only gotten made to order myself so far which where certainly expensive, but quite good)

kangsterI re-read the Massdrop description for this drop and I failed to see where it is misleading. I can find no mention of them claiming this bag is from Minnesota. They have a description of the company, EE, at the bottom, but again that does not indicate where products are made--only developed.
Honestly I think people are making a big deal out of the China mfg. because they are familiar with EE, and EE makes all custom bags in Minnesota. So people are going into this drop with assumptions. But this is EE x Massdrop. I honestly feel that there has been NO deception on Massdrop's part. I have no reason to defend Massdrop either.
I do think that EE's own website *is* a bit misleading... since there are mentions everywhere of MN production, with a few items sewn in China, but not sure all of the off the shelf bags are accurate, since some don't say made in China. [EDIT: I made an assumption that turned out to be wrong. Per DannyMilks only the Revelation bags are sewn in China. So, my apologies to EE for what I wrote about their website being misleading. I do think some clarification on their website would prevent people like me from making those assumptions:-) ]
My two cents anyway.

CardamomteaYes, EE is working creatively to increase capacity, which will actually help their Winona operations. And to clarify, as I wasn't specific when I first wrote about this, it isn't *all* of their off-the-shelf quilts that are started in China, just the Revelations. And again, it helps them keep up with demand while growing and still offering customization (which several other cottage companies have stopped doing).

kangsterI probably wasn't specific enough in my earlier statement, so I apologize if left my statements open to different interpretations. EE only started selling quilts last month that were cut in china, but stuffed and finished in Minnesota. And, it's only the off-the-shelf Revelations, which is a small percentage of the total of what they do. But, they are able to grow their MN company by increasing capacity, without diminishing anything else (customer service, US jobs, options for customization, innovation, and so on). Also, they quite clearly state on the product page that it was started in China, but finished in MN. Hope that clears it up!

DannyMilksAnd I should clarify that I take no issue with them having off the shelf bags sewn in China. I think it's a great way to handle demand, and hopefully gives them cushion money to spend on R&D and their people.
I also noticed their sewn in China statement on my own, separate from this Massdrop discussion, and had erroneously assumed it was all off the shelf bags. So, my bad!

CardamomteaI intended on buying a custom quilt at a cost of around $750 Australian. When this drop came up i was excited to get one for half the price . I will trial it and if i love it will buy another.
