I met Dr. Fang Bian back in 2011 when I threw my first Bay Area Head-Fi Meet:
HIFIMAN was already shaking things up by offering high-value, great-sounding digital audio players, planar magnetic headphones, and IEMs that led on innovation and performance. The Massdrop x HIFIMAN Bolt in-ear monitors continue with this mission. Fun sound & great build at a surprising price. If you are coming from phone earbuds, the seal on these will block out external noise and keep the bass in.
Compared to RE-00: While the RE-00 are a very balanced listen, the Bolt dials up the bass and treble.
The Bolt has a supple flat cable with no fabric, along with a microphone.
Massdrop & HIFIMAN continue our partnership and shared goal of spreading audiohphile sound and experience to a greater audience.
Please enjoy these and feel free to share with friends and family. ;)

Good job CEE_TEE and gang! I am personally a big fan of cheaper bang for your buck style items. I think you guys got a winner here
^THIS MAN IS FAST!!!! :) Thank you erickong!
Can we get a freq chart or something that tells how they might sound?
What's the limit of these?
They're gonna sell out fast, I just want to know how fast.
They haven't been made and this is a group buy to get them made, so it would be pretty weird for them to sell out.
@CEE_TEE any chance MD/HIFIMAN will be sharing the FR? Thanks!
I just realized, his name sounds Dr. Convenient
So, is it known what size of comply foam tips fit these?(if they do)
I'll have to measure the nozzles tomorrow and see if there is a clear answer for you...
I knew I forgot to do something yesterday...I will measure today and post!
Okay, so the nozzles are ~5.5mm in diameter.
We tried some Campfire Audio foamies on them and they fit pretty well. Campfire Audio uses the 400 series of Comply. Without having the Comply 400 around, I can’t be totally sure. I will check my big bag of ear tips at home and see if I have a small bag of Comply to test.
Our pair of CA have a collar around the nozzle with maximum width of 6.3mm:
Any updates you can share now that the dust has settled? Are we on schedule? Ahead of schedule?
Mine shipped. I guess that answers the question.
Hmmmm....... I'm still showing that the order has been placed with the vendor.
I ordered like 10 mins after they went live
I ordered the same morning, but it wasn't that quick.
500 fit well. 400 might be tighter and harder to get on, but I haven’t tried.
You said that the Bolt has a supple flat cable. I don't think anyone would ever describe the cable on the ones I received as "supple." Needless to say, the sound quality is also nothing like what you described. Did Hifiman pull a bait-and-switch on us?
The very short description above is of a V-shaped SQ.. which i totally agree these have.
Agreed, 100%. The quality of these is no where NEAR as was described. They don’t hold up to most music. Especially if they’re turned up to a volume worth listening to.
Yeah, these are extremely disappointing, even for $10
