I'd be in for a EC4S (the 2x 18650 2150Lm version of this flashlight), but this is lackluster due to the use of AA cells.

M.a.vThe EA45S uses XP-L HI which is half the lumens but has double the intensity of the XHP50 in the EC4S, allowing you to throw light much further.
Nitecore also has the EC4GT, the 2x18650 version with XP-L HI and it produces the same 1000 lumens(albeit with a little more distance from the larger reflector and a little extra battery life from the larger cells).
So it's not lackluster at all; in fact it's quite amazing the performance you're getting out of 4xAA, which are a lot more easier to find/replace for people.

guvnorYou're right about the throw. I'd still rather have 18650s than AAs (they're lighter for the capacity and I have tons of them laying around), but I would take the superior throw of the EC4GT over the EC4S and certainly over this lamp. To each their own, but I'll take a good rechargeable lithium cell over a comparable NiMH or primary (of any type) any day.

You should have a look at 'KENTLI' lithium 1.5V AA (&AAA) rechargables, good stuff. e.g. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/KENTLI-8pcs-1-5v-3000mWh-AA-rechargeable-Li-polymer-li-ion-polymer-lithium-battery-4-slots/32799464903.html?scm=1007.13440.85618.0&pvid=fcd2313d-69f1-4bb1-88af-1240305db095&tpp=1 Allows you to lithium but have conventional AAs as backup source. Perhaps a Drop for these are in order?

MichaelAtOzI admit those are pretty neat (considering that they are the proper voltage vs. most lithium replacements) however I would be afraid to be the beta tester for unknown Chinese cells (especially lithium that unlikely to be properly protected cells)...you could end up losing a lot more than just the investment in the cells, or even the flashlight it was put into.
