Like this watch, considering a purchase, but haven’t actually seen one in person? I advise caution—Oris (and Hamilton) are notorious for dolling up their product shots to a point where they become down right unrealistic compared to the actual item. Suggest viewing lots of alternative shots/videos first to be sure. And of course, nothing beats strapping one on in person, to be dead sure.

RayFHello! I have the Oris Big Crown Pro Pilot Reno Air Race Special Edition (long name!). It is on a fabric strap but I really REALLY like it. Looks great in person as well. I would absolutely recommend this watch. The price is about $150-200 lower compared to what you'd find on gray market sites... and about $300 less than you'll ever get a retailer to go.

RayFI have owned 3 Oris watches, and that has not been my experience AT ALL.

trh77 Not knocking the watch, just the artwork/photos. For instance, in the photos above, I defy anyone to prove the watches shown actually have crystals in place. Do you see them, or just assume they’re there? Crystals reflect light (look at yours), yet there’s none visible in these shots. The contrast has been manipulated/boosted to make the blacks blacker, the whites whiter, and the reds redder. All of which is to say, NONE of yours look like this photo.

But might look more like this photo:

Subtle difference? Compare the the red tipped second hand in both photos. Accident? Minor issue? No, it’s not—it's intentional (somebody did it) and it’s a big fucking deal--which was my point to begin with. One should be sure before they spend a grand on a watch they've never seen from a company that's not big on cash refunds. If you disagree, push the BUY button--what do you have to lose, right?

RayF Took this picture just now, yes the render is an exaggeration, but the anti reflective coating on the propilot is actually one of the nicest I've ever seen in a watch.

lukinid“Exaggeration” is a good word for it. Nothing against anti-reflective coatings, just anti-truth photography. Here's another example Hamilton Khaki Murph from the Hamilton site:

Notice that mine has a crystal (Sapphire, by the way). Am I complaining? No, I'd be pissed if mine didn't come with one, but there's no doubt Hamilton spruced up their photo (as Oris has done in theirs) when compared to my no-exaggeration photo. Still not convinced? Okay, suppose you went to one of those dating sites and and decided to go out with this woman:

But when you finally pick her up for dinner, she looks like this:

You with me now?!

RayFO don't be so dramatic Ray. What I'm saying is in the case of the propilot you won't be getting the same experience like your date was.

lukinid YOUR date, buddy, not mine! Curious though, which no-refunds website did you buy your $1,500 watch from?

RayFI bought it at a local AD, they're giving away a huge closing down sale discount for it. I got it for around USD 1,200 with the official warranty and all.

lukinidMy point exactly; don’t spend a grand on a watch without seeing it (in person) first, unless you’re sure you can return it for a refund should it not meet expectations. That’s really the only point I was making.

RayFI see your point but this is the norm. Professional pictures will always over represent FWIW, my breilting colt has crazy AR coating, many times where you can't even see the crystal, almost as if you could touch the hands. I've also owned a Navitimer but the A/R coating wasn't nearly as good, which is odd since was more than 2x the price
