I get claustrophobic looking at this, and I'm not claustrophobic. What is it like sleeping in something so compact? I suppose being able to look out the window probably alleviates any feeling of claustrophobia?

SYSTEM-GLITCHIt's not just claustrophobia. You also have to worry about rodents and other critters walking all over you at night. Just seems like something out of a horror story. Tent for me.

JamesXNot claustrophobic at all for me, and the size/weight is great. I use the Alpine Bivy when I go on more than a day trip on my motorcycle - fits nicely in a pannier and provides all the protection from the elements should you need it.
I slept in this in a hammock w/ no rainfly in a rainstorm and stayed dry as a bone. It's a little tricky to get rolled up correctly to fit in the stuff sack, but once you have it down, no problem.

SYSTEM-GLITCH I owned a Sierra West bivy for many years that I bought in 1981 (when tents weighed more). I used my bivy on a cross-country bicycle trip and on 2 John Muir Trails. I'm a bit claustrophobic, so it was only a place to sleep. On my bike trip I would hang out in a covered shelter until bedtime. Mine was Gore-tex and it did condense a bit, especially on humid or cold nights and in the rain. Both my claustrophobia and condensation were better when the flap was open, and if it started to rain it only took a couple second to close the flap. The bivy was great for stealth camping. Now in my old age I have a 1-person tent that is under 3 pounds, so I don't feel the need for a bivy. I appreciate being able to sit up in my tent and change clothes or read in the rain.

SYSTEM-GLITCHFirst time might be a little rough, but once you're used to it I find it really cozy. Of course read the other reviews about rain, try are not wrong. I stayed dry in the rain, but since you neeeeed to leave the fly open I ended up with a puddle on the floor of my bivy.
