This is L1/100 or L1/28?

6EQUJ5Doesn't matter. The Philips /XX at the end of their model number just denotes the region they came from. For a Blu-ray player, that'd matter, but for headphones, it doesn't.

oryan_dunnBut it does, if you don't live in that region you can't claim the warranty on it if something goes wrong.

6EQUJ5I had issues with the pair I received from Massdrop. They were very responsive and helpful. Eventually, I ended up with the actual pair shown in the pictures here, since they didn't have any others in stock at the time.
As for the warranty, I'm not sure how strict Philips would be. Maybe someone from Massdrop could chime in, but I wouldn't let that sway you away from these. For the money, you'd be hard pressed to get a better pair of headphones.

oryan_dunnNot really, the AKG 553 Pro is still available. If this headphone is so good then why are there so many purchases for the AKG?

6EQUJ5Yeah I kind of wonder the same, most review seems to favour Philips L1 but for some reason the sales number favours the AKG K553 Pro by a huge margin.

HydeThere are many things people buy that are not as good, just because of the name. Philips is relatively unknown for high end headphones. All I can say is that I really like mine.
HydeI can't say for sure, having not heard either set, but I would guess a combination of a bunch of factors. The AKG is a new/current revision of a popular headphone, whereas this Philips is an older model that has a direct replacement already on the market. The AKG drop was already running when L1 was offered, and everybody wants in on a product that sells out within a day if for no other reason than perceived value. The cans are also very different in application, with the Philips being semi-open, with shorter detactable cables, and the AKG being closed and having a long fixed cable.

6EQUJ5at the time I bought the 553's I did so because they weren't available in other places yet. That is probably part of it, not to mention that AKG is a name that has a lot of weight right now in peoples minds, where Philips kind of makes people think of their moms VCRs. Not to talk bad about their products, I have the cheapo set of Philips that dropped a few weeks ago and really love them. just my 2 cents.
oryan_dunndepends on the need somewhat. the L1 works great at home or on the go, the 553 is not made for on the go. I have the 553 and the X1. love them both.
NomeBoythe X1 will knock your socks off. the X2 is a tad better. I paid $150 for the X1 when amazon last had a sale.
