I remember buying 2 boxes of the very first RtR massdrop ($72 or $74 per box and free shipping to Canada). The deals since then have never been even close to that one. Did you guys actually lost money over the first massdrop of RtR? Why have the following deals never came close to it?

PhilippeFree shipping is almost always a marketing promotion, so we lose money on that (actually international free shipping costs us a lot).

We had access to a distributor who was closing out their inventory on Magic cards way back in the day, and they were selling them for around $10 cheaper than all other wholesalers. Even then, you guys bought up everything they had and then some, so we had to buy some cases at higher prices from regular distributors and take a small loss on those (and end the buy early).

This $82-$93 price range (around $10 less than the main online retailers) is roughly the standard "equilibrium" price for Magic cards, depending on supply in the wholesaler channel (which is dependent on WOTC print runs).

In terms of "great deals", we check the main online sites before we run MTG cards, and I'd say everytime we're the lowest (shipped price) on the Internet. Right now my two comparison prices are showing $94.49 and $99.99 for RtR. We don't compare ourselves to ebay sellers- many are legit but it's a very different service (for better or worse).

Some of you have a friend that works at an LGS, or know the owner, who sells you boxes at cost, or at cost plus a few dollars. Those are always going to be better deals than getting cards through Massdrop since you need to pay to get it shipped to your door.

Magic cards are basically a commodity, so the pricing is very efficient and you'll rarely if ever see "huge sales". The only reason we can shave 5-10% off other prices is through Massdrop's operating efficiency.
