My flock of hummingbirds arrived today (blue, green, and grey) Still annoyed by this whole lousy FedEx Smart Post crap, took a week to make a 3 1/2 hour journey that would've taken any other shipping method 2 days.
But, I digress, on to the knives themselves....
All the pics and reviews truly cannot prepare you for just how ridiculous these things are once you get them in hand haha
Overall the fit and finish of everything is truly impressive in miniature form. All machining on the handles are perfect. Dismantled one of them and the tolerances for how everything fits together was nothing short of impeccable. The floating spacer and lock pin fit so snugly I thought they were attached for a minute.
The action out of the box on all 3 was pretty snappy. The flipper takes a bit of pressure to release, but then the blade just flies open. Lock bar is a little difficult to release due to the size, but no worse than could be reasonably expected. Overall smooth opening, slightest bit gritty feeling closing. All 3 detent holes look smooth and well drilled (in response to some recent concerns on another Rike drop - @boortmiser) After cleaning and re-oiling with some Hoppe's No 9 on the one i disassembled, that gritty feeling is about 90% gone. I imagine it'll be fully gone after the detent wears itself a groove. One other thing to note, there are steel washers between the bearings and the titanium handles, as expected..... But i could only get one side to release the washer, the other is completely stuck in there. Curious to see if that will be the same on the others
Only 3 complaints: 1- the edges are sloppy sharp at best. All 3 have grinds that are uneven in one way or another. 1 is particularly bad where the bevel width on one side is twice what it is on the other, and the grinding goes right up into the ricasso 😣 2- there's a bit of black slag left in the blade cutout on all three. Looks like maybe hardened gunk leftover from the blade polishing. No biggie, but was a noticeably large amount on each one and took a hard scraping to get it out 3- the pocket clip CANNOT be removed from the knife. To do so would require cutting down the threaded spacer. Poor design choice for something that's sold with a sheath for neck carrying
