Having seen this here and discovered that Smacha are relatively near to me (Bellevue, WA) I couldn't resist and went to check them out. I met Jason Chen and his new apprentice Ken, did two tea tastings and walked out with $100 in puer and oolong, and also this autobrewer. I've been using it with great success. It makes tea that is a big improvement over my clumsy attempts with a proper yixing pot. It has a raw, solid aesthetic that is very appealing. Naturally, I dropped it on a linoleum floor immediately after taking it out of the box and it just bounced without a mark on it. The only flaw is a minor warp to the edges of the lid; it fits fine but it's not quite even all the way around. This is not really noticeable unless you're looking for it. The brochure that came in the box is all in Chinese but the pictures imply that parts may be handmade, so I'll just assume that's the reason! The glass cup is unremarkable but also solid enough, and the clay brewer also sits more or less snuggly in a number of my regular cups and mugs.
I don't think anyone who got in on this drop is going to be disappointed.
