I wonder if some of those having a bad experience are trying to comb wet hair? That's supposed to be bad with any comb, and it might be even worse with this one given its strength. Try it with dry hair, pulling the comb in straight lines to minimize risk of it catching.
On another note, I've also found this comb to be exceptionally easy to clean com[b]pared to the cheapo plastic variants, or for that matter a hair brush.
