I have a large hulking wooden desk I inherited from my family. I wanted to jump on the "standing desk" train but, i couldn't bring myself to part with my heirloom desk--and its too large not to use as office equipment. About a year ago, I purchased the Vivo Tabletop Workstation to see if I could get the best of both worlds. The experiment has been a total success. My office space has evolved over the year, but the workstation has been bale to accommodate alot of changes. Currently, It holds my hefty iMac, several keyboards, a trackball mouse, usually a propped up book next to the screen, and a mounted microphone clamp and pop filter for podcast recording. I can move the desk up and down without moving or worry about virtually all of these things (the book is the only exception). After a year, the desk still moves between height settings fairly fluidly. When locked, the hold is strong. I also find that it helps organize my workspace when not in standing desk mode.
The only complaints I have are the following: The workstation can be a little awkward manipulate if you have anything sitting slightly near or in front of the workstation that is not attached to it, like a drinking vessel. Knick knacks will often roll under the workstation and be difficult to grab--don't expect to find your unsecured pens and pencils where you left them after you move the workstation around. Also, if you use alot of corded devices, be prepared to spend some time working out your own way to do cord management with the station so that they don't get tangled up when you manipulate the workstation. None of these are design flaws, but don't expect the desk to just move up without changing your desk or workspace a little. I do often find myself though wishing that the desk was longer and that the keyboard tray was as well. I don't really think it can easily or comfortably handle two large/heavy monitors. It can, though, hold my laptop on one end, with my iMac monitor on the other--but I probably wouldn't leave it standing like this overnight.
When I bought this, I remember it costing something similar to a membership to my local gym. Overall, I've lost enough weight working in front of this thing to justify the purchase on those grounds alone.
