Testimonial: I love my wonder clips, and I've used binder clips, too. Each have merits.
For all the reasons in Mark's earlier post, I would NEVER use a binder clip near my sewing machine. But I do use them in basting, for securing a quilt sandwich to a thick table.
Wonder Clips are great for: bag making, quilting, apparel construction, you name it. Especially for fine or expensive fabrics (which you would never risk on a binder clip).
Bottom line: traditional "make-do" tools have merit, but wonder clips are so much better suited to the task that I'm very glad for their availability.
Attached photo: a simple but sturdy quilted tote I made this week. Wonder clips come through where pins fail, especially for top-stitching bulky layers and securing piping. Happy stitching!
