Prd64It does have a Quick setting that will perform closer to a cheap rice cooker (much quicker but not so ideally cooked).

Prd64Keep in mind that this is actually less time than it takes to correctly make sushi rice, which is what this machine excels at. Sushi rice needs to be washed, soaked for 30 minutes, and then cooked for about 20-30 minutes longer. With the Zojirushi you just need to wash the rice as it takes care of the soaking stage for you as part of the way it cooks rice. I get that for non-sushi rice this is kind of an annoyance since it also takes the same amount of time to cook long grain rice but that's the price you pay for the amazing job it does cooking sushi rice.

Prd64This is not true. I have this rice cooker and it takes 15 minutes to cook about twice that amount.. of brown rice.. It could depend on which type of rice you're using. We always cook Thai rice varieties: jasmine, brown and red.

brdrgzReally? My rice cooker takes 35 mins to cook 4 cups of brown rice. I was going to get one of these anyway but if it will get the job done in 15 mins along with everyone I know singing its praises, I'm sold.

jbrown2112I would recommend not using the "brown rice" settings, they don't work that well, take a long time and the rice ends up soggy. Maybe those work better with short-grain like Japanese rice. We just use the quick rice setting and a different water ratio.
