PC. A Console Will Last, 3-4 years at it pinnacle, and then another 300-400 for a console, if you have CD then buy a bunch of games again, new controllers, new skins or stickers. But on a PC, you can upgrade the graphics card every 5-6 years, even sell the old one, and will put you back 200? A new CPU. 100 Dollars?

CesarMartinezSo, the general idea of this argument may be sound, but the execution of it, in my eperience, is not at all. This arugment comes up frequently, and I think it is a very weak one to present to people with consoles that may be considering switching. First, I think a good console will last at least 5 years. I know my XB1 is about at that point. If you buy a brand new one around when they come out, you're right on the money with a cost of about $400. Now, if we are talking about running a PC capable of just console graphics, maybe. But what processor are you upgrading to for $100? What GPU are you upgrading to for $200? At this level you really are making a very, very budget PC. A good PC will last many years, certainly. I had a PC with a GTX 970/i7 4790 for around 4 years. It was aging and needed an upgrade. It wasn't as simple as upgrading the processor and the GPU. To get a new processor I needed a new MOBO, and a new MOBO meant I needed more ram (my old one still used DDR3, only DDR4 is suppported on any new MOBO). In the end I spent close to $800 BEFORE even upgrading the GPU (another $800). This is the big issue when talking about upgrading over a long period of time, old parts become incompatible with new parts, and upgrades often require much more than a single part. Wait 5 years, the lifespan of console, and you'll definitely be required to update quite a few parts. Now, to get a very high end GPU you can spend between $800 and $1,200, meaning you could buy 2 generations of brand new consoles over just that single component. I just don't think there is ever really an argument for PC's being more bang for buck. You can't build a PC that compares with the XBOX 1 X and for $400, you just can't.

livingspeedbumpActually... Yes you can build a reasonable low cost $400 gaming PC. R3 or i3 CPU is ~$80 motherboard is 50 to70 PSU is 50 HDD is 40 and RAM is 75-120 depending on gigs and speeds. GPUis 150 and that's where you would spend the most for graphics that will shame any console. Free cases can be found anywhere. But those are cheap on newegg or amazon if you have to have one.

CeaddermanAt that cost you'd be up against the Xbox One X, which really will be able to spit out much more than any $150 GPU (basically GTX 1050/ RX 560). I also think you need to include a keyboard/mouse as Consoles come with a controller, safely another $100 for the pair. I think $600 is where you start to build a reasonable PC that really shows any real graphic improvements over consoles.

livingspeedbumpIntel does not keep the socket, but AMD will keep the socket until at least 2020. Also, Gen 3 CPU and Navi GPU's are about the same price as the older gen and architecture. Also, I AM refering to a Console like price. A PC at 400 dollars will outperform a PS4 Pro or XBox equivalent. Also, custamizing the PC is ALOT easier than a console. Go ahead and tell be how you will just swap out the case on a PS4 for one with a clear side panel. Or how will you swap out the fans for more quiet ones? How will you add RGB?

livingspeedbumpNo company will offer the same price to performance as custom built will. Not even in the PC world. The best pre built 700 Desktop will offer a GTX 1050 Ti. A custom build 700 dollar PC can go for a 1060 6 GB or a RX 580 8 GB. If you could build your own console it would be better, and maybe compete with PC's. A Pre built product company (Console or PC) has to come up with a new design. That cost money. Then, they buy the pieces. That cost money. Then, they pay someone to assemble them. That cost money. Then they have to pack and store. That cost money. Then they must ship. That cost money. They also must make software. That cost money. And finally, they must advertise it. That, yep, cost money. All this money is charged on top of the production cost. Not Only that, but there are more PC games than console games. And a keyboard and mouse is better than 2 joysticks and a couple buttons.

livingspeedbumpYou could build a DDR3 setup that would trounce any console and as stated below have more games available to you than any console as well. But what do I know, I have a metric crapton of $$$ invested in my preferred cooling solution. Also own a fully water cooled 1100T on a CIVFormula and a pair of watercooled Sapphire 6870s using Swiftech full coverage heatsinks custom machined to fit EK Thermosphere blocks. My 3 yo son(soon to be 4) will be getting it for his birthday after I get my latest build going. I spend what I want on what I want, but can build budget too if someone wants me to.
