Unfortunately the $100 mark is rather awkward. For just a little over $100 there is a leap in quality (and reputation) unseen in the under-$100 range. I mean the Lamy 2000 and the Pilot Custom Heritage 92. While the CH92 cannot be bought for under $100, the Lamy 2000 has indeed been offered for About $100 here on Massdrop. Therefore I am including it in my list. I am going with actual right-now prices not MSRP, the Lamy 2000 being the only exception.
search
1-Lamy 2000 Why? Because Lamy 2000.
search
2-Pilot Custom 74 Why? Japanese quality, 14kt gold nib, under $80; what more do you need?
search
3-Platinum 3776 Why? See 2
search
4- Italix Parson's Essential, or Viper Strike, or even Churchman's Prescriptor. Why? Custom nib work, for about $60.
search
5-Levenger L-Tech 3.0 Why? It looks like a Rotring 600, precisely-machined solid aluminum, screw-in nib assembly
search
6-Any Ensso or Namisu machined titanium pen when it drops on MD Why? Because Titanium
search
7-TWSBI 580AL Why? Solid quality demonstrator piston filler under $70. Honestly this one almost didn't make it to the list. Other considerations:

I would agree with the Lamy 2000 if you could actually find it for under $100...Love that pen so much, I have two!

Amazon offered the fine nib for $101 earlier this August. And that's Amazon, not a 3rd party seller. And in June it dropped here for under $100. So it's not strictly under $100, but it's so close and it's too good to be excluded.

Great list. Nice pics! I have all you listed but the Levenger, the 580AL (I have the TWSBI Mini), and the Kaweco.

The Platinum 3776 is really a nice pen. I love the black/silver models. The Platinum lacquer models are to die for, but they are more than $100.

Surprised the Kaweco Supra didn't make it as the best compact FP...

I dont know why, but I dont like the 3776... It feels way too clunky.. Maybe I got it because slip-n-seal? I remember using the charts blue with a UEF for physics, and it was a dream, but after I got another with B (my usual width), I've barely touched either of them.

Thoughts on Wooden Pens
Hi All, I'd like to know your thoughts an opinions on pens made of wood. Things I'm interested in are shape/contour (and whether or not that is an important factor for you), price, weight, wood type (as well as color, grain structure/density). Also, RIP this community. I'm sure there are better places to buy pens anyways :(

So, uh....the Writing Community is back?
Under the COMMUNITIES menu, Writing is back under My Communities. But it's not showing up under the SHOP menu for me. And it only has one fountain pen for purchasing so far. Is this an error, or is it permanently back?

World's Best Pencils
So I've been thinking of exploring the world of pencils and wanted to get some feedback from everyone. Do you have any pencils that are a "must try"? [image] Here are a few that have caught my eye so far: Ticonderogas Palomino Golden Bears (already have the blackwings) General's Semi-Hex Nataraj Bold Staedtler Noris Eco HB Tombow Mono 100 HB Also, I have become obssessed with this great YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJJOStpzNewBJ0XfhRSsmfw While we're at it, add any reccomendations for sharpeners and erasers you also enjoy! I look forward to reading your suggestions and sharing any acquisitions I may come across.

I want to start using a fountain pen in school.
I'm in 10th grade and about last month I thought I'd learn cursive writing, I saw how quick I was getting into it and enjoying writing I thought I'd make it more enjoyable. I have about 200 shekels to spend aprox 50$ If anyone could recommend a good fountain pen/kit, I'd appreciate it. I am probably getting a Parker pen soon since I can get it for free, but I want to know what I should look into. Thanks.

Fountain Pen for School?
My fellow pen lovers, I am in search of a fountain pen for schools. Now, I am a high school student and like most (all) of you know, school is rough on your pens and often leads to the death of them. I am in search of a durable fountain pen that can survive the "stresses of high school." My criteria is: <$200, a fine writer ("Japanese" fine), durable, and a "better than average writing experience."

What happened to this site? There's only one pen on offer. Are you going out of business?

What happened to drop?
This sucks. I used to look forward to browsing and buying from this website but now the categories are severly limited and I can find what I want here Anymore. It was good while it lasted I guess. Could have been a great business model. So long drop.

What a joke.
Not only do they force you to sign in with an account or email and then choose categories for them to spam you with, they no longer have fountain pens and are peddling their own brand. If you're wondering where the pens are, I am guessing massDrop hasn't convinced any real pen manufacturers to co-brand with them. Very disreputable if one were to ask me.
