What a good, cheap way for a college student to make espresso whether it's a cheap machine or a similar method? (cant really use a moka pot cuz I don't have a stovetop or hotplate)

ShyamPatelCheck out the Aeropress. It's not espresso technically, but it produces concentrated coffee which most people then water down to taste. They're very sturdy and should last a very long time. The filters are very very cheap, in fact the ones that come with it should last you a very long time.

hotelmodeYou can also get metal filters that are reusable. They give you a little more espresso-like characteristics since they allow the passing through of oils and such.

ShyamPatelFrom what I've read, the attachment Prismo by Fellow (http://fellowproducts.com/prismo/) allows you to create a 'espresso-style' coffee. They don't claim it to be an espresso.
I can tell you that an Aeropress is an amazing way to go if you are looking for a compact way to make coffee as a student. It is also fairly inexpensive. Combined with an electric kettle with temperature control, you will be all set to make coffee anywhere.
The clean up for an aeropress is incredibly quick as well. You can vary your cups via the filters you use; paper, 2x paper, metal (various sellers) or the prismo.

ShyamPatelUnfortunately good and cheap don't tend to come together with espresso. A moka isn't espresso. An Aeropress isn't espresso either but something you might want to consider given your requirements. Some possibilities for espresso would include the Flair or Rok espresso makers. No matter what you have to have a good espresso grinder.

TRSUPERG 'espresso roast' is actually only a type of bean (or blend of beans) that are intended to be brewed via an espresso maker. Often times they refer to it as an espresso roast as that roast + bean(s) have made a good a good cup of espresso. Mostly marketing. You can make an espresso out of any bean and any roast.

ShyamPatelAero press! This is available for less than $40 and makes killer espresso if you follow the directions. At first it looks like a plastic French press but the coffee quality is top notch.

ShyamPatelAeropress probably the cheapest option. It is not espresso but good enough. Another option, not really espresso, is a syphon (I have one from Hario) and it looks very cool (chemistry vibes). Can be a bit more pricy but you can find cheap offers on amazon.

ShyamPatelYour best option is the aeropress for sure. Super easy to clean, consistent, and indestructible. However if a concentrated coffee doesn't cut it for you, there are some funny little things that make espresso using NO2 cartridges. But I'm assuming college=cheap, so yeah. Aeropress is best bet.

ShyamPatelBesides Aeropress, which isn't true espresso but can be excellent, I'd suggest Nespresso. The ristretto pod is decent (can't really point you to anther good pod though) and cleanup is very easy. The cheapest ones often go on sale for about $75. Better espresso is hard and costly. My home setup runs $2500+. The Nespresso doesn't hold a candle to it, but it's not burnt garbage either. It has it's place. Recycle the pods please, they provide bags to do so.
