We've moved away from turkey for a variety of reasons, one being unless you have 8 or more people the leftovers go on for too many days. I'm a very creative and inventive cook, but there is only so much one can do with a turkey especially the way I prepare it.
Last year I made pozole, fry bread and veggies with an apple tart. This year I will be making venison stew, served in acorn squash bowls with either cornbread or fry bread with pecan tartlets for dessert. Another option for this year was seared duck breast, veggies and such, but my husband really likes the stew idea and of course so do i.
Turkey and pumpkin pie are also not big favorites in our home, so for us going the non-traditional route is one that makes us all happy.
