Is that some kind of military murder machine behind the watches?

Bobraz Decided at one point, that living in a country of 300,000,000-plus guns, being a fellow without one tended to place me at theoretical disadvantage—particularly when half the population of that country believe trump is the second coming. So, zombie apocalypses not withstanding, yes, I bought a gun to protect myself from gun-nuts.

RayF😱 That's way scarier than a "gun".... It's a molten steel rain machine! For the life of us, in Canada we don't understand the American fascination with these, and we certainly don't understand how civilians can have these law enforcement and military designed-for weapons... But that's a discussion for another day! It's watches here!

Bobraz On my most recent crossing to Canada, my vehicle was selected for a random search by CBSA. They didn't find the ten kilos of cocaine I'd cleverly concealed in my tote bag, but they definitely took exception to a couple of pocket knives I had with me. "In Canada this is the same as a gun!" the young border agent scolded me, as he brandished my little 3 3/4" Ken Onion designed, Kershaw Leek with a threatening gesture. He then demonstrated how one could conceal the knife in one hand, and said, with an evil glint in his eye: "You could walk up to someone, press this lever, and stab them!"

At that point I felt compelled to make two quick points: A) In no place on the fucking planet, is a knife ever a gun and, B) a person could stab another person with any damn knife they chose, be it a flipper, assisted opener, or a fixed blade--and they do it all the time. However, my time was short and I had better things to do than point out how the laws of one country make as little sense as those of another. So while you may have a point about Americans, and what you think of as designed for military guns, let me assure you, I have no intention of becoming the next mass shooter you read about, any more than you need worry about me flipping my flipper at you in a dark alley somewhere in Montreal. Speaking of Montreal, while you may think us Americans are all mad-dog killers with automatic weapons bulging out of our every pocket, I have driven in Montreal, and I found that experience far more intimidating--you people are savages!!!

PS: next time you're trying to smuggle contraband across a border, I recommend one of these:

BobrazWe don't care if you understand and we are sick and tired of hearing about what you think about the USA and firearms and "molten steel rain machines". You make me laugh. Best day of my life was leaving Canada and becoming an American. Gotta go and clean some of my "molten steel rain machines". You should keep your opinions to yourself

Stu3 Wrong. Everyone gets to express their opinions here (certainly on my threads). If MD didn't let people express themselves, I'd be out of a job! By the way, @Bobraz is a good friend of mine and I respect his opinions!

Stu3I don't remember anyone asking for your rednecky opinion either - so please feel free to keep it under your red MAGA baseball cap. Incidentally, I'm glad from Canada you were able to flush yourself out to the south, so you could marry your dear cousin...

BobrazI was replying to your comment....ie your unsolicited, unasked and unneeded comment in a thread about watches. You put the ball in play; not me. I don't own a MAGA hat and did not marry my cousin. You'll never understand American gun culture and that there are so many gun owners who are not "red-necks" (as you assume). Doctors, lawyers, dentists, federal workers (like me), engineers, working class, rich, poor, etc and lots of them own "molten steel rain machines " or AR15s. I love free speech and we all share that freedom. You are just not expecting everyone to bow down to your snarky comments about America just because you are from Canada. When someone calls your bluff, you react with childish accusations about hats, marrying a cousin and being flushed down a toilet. Nice.

Stu3Oh yes, what an utupia gunland is! Just for the record, my scathing remark was not because you called my 'bluff' (my bluff? Wait, what?), it was in reaction to your imbecilic, immature, rude, insulting, speech stifling, crass comment.

RayFRayF: I agree! He expressed his opinion and I expressed my opinion. Isn't that a grand idea. I am glad you and Bobraz are friends and you respect his opinions. If someone called one of my AR15s, AKs or FALs a "molten steel rain machine" (whatever that means); I would need to evaluate the friendship. Who am I to judge. BTW, nice rifle! Love the ambi selector. Welcome to the team.

BobrazYou just can't stop, can you. You are the one high-jacking a thread about watches and turning it into something about gun-control. I'm out. Have a glorious Friday.

Stu3 Well that's not exactly how it happened. To be fair, I'm the one who interjected a gun into the wrist check section, something that isn't normally done, and that I knew would not go unnoticed. You could say it was a provocation. @Bobraz responded the way he did, because up to that point he wasn't aware of my interest in that area. I didn't take offense, as I said he's a friend of mine. Obviously guns are a controversial subject (especially in a watch thread), so you shouldn't be too surprised if folks feel strongly either way. And by the way, if you think folks have negative feelings about guns, you should here what they say about Invictas! Be that as it may, here's the latest shot of my molten steel rain machine.

Catalyst48 Well, it started life as a (completely black) Savage MSR15 Recon. At the time, Savage was using Blackhawk-brand stocks and grips. Since then, they've introduced the Recon 2.0, which ditches the Blackhawk stuff and replaces it with more popular Magpul versions. Oddly enough, the banner on Savage's site still shows the Blackhawk stock, while the product photo below, shows the Magpul furniture. https://www.savagearms.com/content?p=firearms&a=product_summary&s=22970 Those superficial features aside, both the 1.0 and 2.0 Recons are identical. For some reason, mine had a pair of Magpul flip-up sites installed when I bought it. No one at Cabelas seemed to know why, but since the stock rifle doesn't come with iron sights, I didn't complain. Turns out they're a pretty good option: https://magpul.com/firearm-accessories/sights/mbus-sight-rear.html?mp_global_color=118 Back to the stock for a moment--certain online reviews criticized the Blackhawk "Knoxx Axiom Adjustable Buttstock" because the adjustment lever was in a non-standard location and the stock includes a fairly thick buttpad. I call BS to both concerns, LOP adjustment is plenty easy to find, and I like the buttpad because the rubber helps to keep the stock in place when you bring it up to your shoulder. The rifle came with the black Knoxx Axiom Adjustable Buttstock, I replaced it with the identical unit in "Dark Earth": https://blackhawk.com/knoxx-axiom-adjustable-buttstock/ On the other hand, I did not like the Blackhawk Knoxx pistol grip; in my book it was just a black hunk of hard plastic. I'm glad Savage replaced it with the Magpul grip, but I opted to replace mine with an even better unit, the Houge OverMolded Rubber Beavertail grip. Really feels nice in the hand, very grippy and the finger groves fit perfectly: https://www.hogueinc.com/tactical-rifles/ar-15-m16/grips/soft-overmolded-rubber/beavertail-grips/ar-15-m16-overmolded-rubber-beavertail-grip-with-finger-grooves-fde I'm left-handed so I also replaced the charging handle with Blackhawks No-Latch, ambidextrous charging handle, again in Dark Earth: https://blackhawk.com/ar-15-no-latch-ambidextrous-charging-handle/ I was on the fence about which way to go on the optic (reflex, prism, or holographic)--eventually I decided on the Vortex OPMOD StrikeFire II. The reviews were very good and if I bought OPMOD's limited edition version from Optics Planet, I could get it in FDE as well. Turns out to be a great red dot with lots of options (red and green reticles) and it included the cantilevered mount for lower one/third co-witness with the Magpul flip up, iron sites I already had. https://www.opticsplanet.com/vortex-opmod-strikefire-ii-red-dot-with-cantilever-ar-15-mount-4moa-red-green-do.html The rifle came with that free floating M-lock rail so it was easy to add the Magpul M-LOK Hand Stop and Type 2 M-LOK Rail Covers to create the fore grip area (all in FDE, of course). I used another M-lok slot to instal a quick-detach mount for a sling (the Blackhawk stock already includes two attachment points, btw). And last, but not least, I bought a bunch of 30 round magazines, some from Magpul, others from HexMag, but all in FDE ;- ) So there you have it--pretty sure that's the whole mess. The biggest issue I encountered was getting everything delivered--lots of sites were out of stock on one thing or another, and shipping was painfully slow. And of course finding enough ammo these days is a whole 'nuther subject!
