TOPIC::: I need a setup which does not involve a big PC around, something to connect just my DAC, Amp and Headphones. Help. (self.headphones)
I have my setup in my computer in home but it is a work place indeed, but in order to listen while in the sofá on the living room I was planning on putting a little rack set with a DAC, Amp and Headphones... I lack the SOURCE... something little, not too expensive and that would allow me to listen lossless audio like TIDAL or something (not too complex). Any idea out there? (Also the same idea if you want to listen nice music while in bed... and not mess with a PC...) Please help.

DanielFerrerI use a Chromecast Audio as a source for my DarkVoice 336SE amp in my living room. Combined with my 6xx it’s a sweet relatively low profile setup.
Google Play Music -> Chromecast Audio -> DV 336SE -> 6xx

mindhead1I really like that setup... It is very practical indeed, and I am about to buy a ChromecastAudio just for this, but many audiophiles out there say it is not a lossless system by far... :(

DanielFerrerI know the criticisms of the CCA, but to my ear it sounds really good. I have used the DV336SE with Aune X1S and AudioEngine D1 DACs and can't honestly say I hear any difference in sound quality when listening to music via Google Play Music or FLAC and high bit rate MP3 via Plex from my MacBook Pro or CCA. I have tried and can't distinguish between FLAC, 320 kbps MP3 or 256 kbps AAC.
In any case, the CCA is affordable enough to give it a go and see if it works for you.

mindhead1I explain finally what I decided. Ok bought a Yamaha music streamer (WXAD-10) which transmit good quality bit rate samples. Then I connect it to a MiTech2 DAC that I borrowed from a friend (until massdrop takes out the GraceDac again or releases a stackable one) From there I connect the CTH or the CavalliX and then I use my HD650 / HD6XX / Grado 325i / Hifiman 4XX
ALL THIS from my sofa out of a messy computer desk... I know the streamer is not the best I could get but I have the feeling g that this part is gonna be much cheaper in no time with even MQA files.

DanielFerrerIf you have a lossless source, then the DAC in the chrome cast is lossless. Unless I am mistaken, I stream music (FLAC) from my Plex server to my chrome cast into my head amp. That is lossless. Now if you are using a lossy Source, well that it what you get. As for what audiophiles say about chrome cast, that is a subjective thing. I think it is quite good enough for me.

wineguy13That is a good point as I also had Plex installed... I do not really know if having a lossless source gives the DAC less importance... I doubt about it. I think DAC in lossy or lossless has a really important role in changing the depth and details.
