Introducing Drop + THX AAA ONE Linear Amplifier
With the success of the AAA™ 789 Linear Amplifier (and now the Panda Wireless Headphones), our partnership with THX is only getting stronger. Now, we’re excited to announce our latest collaboration: the Drop + THX AAA™ ONE Linear Amplifier.  The ONE will be the new entry point for ultra-clean, linear sound in a desktop headphone amplifier. Just like the 789, it’s designed to optimize your audio experience. While the 789 provides more power with its balanced design, the ONE will still drive most headphones with ease. It’s also built with an all-metal enclosure to protect the technology inside. Now we’re including a pre-amplifier output that allows you to connect the amp to a powered speaker and switch back and forth between headphones and speakers on the fly.  Here are some other highlights:
  • Ultra-low distortion AAA™ circuit with high-voltage swing
  • Ultra-low noise THX architecture (less than 1 uV of output noise)
  • Power to drive demanding headphones with ease (Up to 2000 mW at 32 Ohms, 1000 mW at 16 Ohms, and 275 mW at 300 Ohms)
  • 3-position gain switch (allows for fine-tuning of signal-to-noise with any headphone or IEM)
  • Ultra-low noise pre-amplifier output (Use the ONE to drive active desktop speakers or a dedicated power amplifier in a home stereo setup, and easily switch between headphone-out and pre-out with a dedicated button)
  • High-quality aluminium chassis (which also works to shield the electronics from RF and other external noise)
  • $199 MSRP Target
We can’t wait to bring this amp to market. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks—and as always, if you have any questions or comments, leave them below. Best, The Drop Team

Hmm, this might actually be a good fit for me. I’m new to this audiophile stuff and would love some opinions. I just picked up a pair of 6xx open-back headphones and play most of my music on vinyl. I’ve been using Yamaha studio monitors as my speakers and like the sound other then the total lack of low end. They give great separation and are obviously really clean but know that studio monitors are kind of frowned upon in the vinyl community. I’ve been going back-and-forth between the idea of buying passive speakers or just getting a sub to match the studio monitors One other issue that I have is that there’s no volume control on my turntable so I’m constantly going back-and-forth between the two studio monitors that are somewhat awkwardly placed to be a just that. This amp sounds like it could power my studio monitors better than the preamp build into my turntable and would also work for my new open back headphones. I want great sound on a budget but also want to be building in the right direction. Any ideas or suggestions? A bit more costly, but I’ve also been looking at the topping a90 and a few tube amps including the dark voice. I’d really like an amp that will power headphones and work with my speakers ..but again, might move to pass if speakers at some point. I’m still learning a lot and any info or opinions would be really helpful.

I have a set of 58X Jubilee headphones and a Logitech Z625 speakers. Would it be right to use the preamp of this amplifier with the Z625? Since the sub powers the speakers it probably has it's own preamp (I don't know for sure, since I'm new to all this stuff) so I'm left wondering if connecting the preamp of this headphone amplifier to the sub could potentially damage it (or any other part of the Z625) 🤔 Can somebody help me with this?

You could use your Logitech speakers in two ways. One, you set the volume control on your logitech speakers to about 3/4 and leave it there and use the headphone amp as volume control. Or, two, you would turn the headphone amp up to full and use the logitech as the volume control. Either way at max output from the pre-outs it's basically the same signal you're feeding them right now from your computer (2v) and it will be fine.

[DROP + THX AAA ONE LINEAR AMPLIFIER] What amplification method does this amplifier use? EX) CLASS A? CLASS AB? CLASS D?

will this power bookshelf speakers?
Sep 21, 2020
I can tell you it won't power passive bookshelf speakers. Not sure if you can find a way to hook up powered monitors, but this is a headphone amp first and foremost, and a darn good one if the 789 is anything to go on.

Does/can this - or many other amps etc - come with a UK plug? We don't all live in the US or Europe (of which we're no longer a part anyway!).

Something usefull to add: You're an idiot if the form of the power socket is your issue. I truly mean that, cause the form matter nothing voltage matters and frequency matters, who cares for the form... -.-

I really wish this had at least two inputs, that would make it much more useful. I think one input should be able to function as a phono input.

Tubes aren’t necessarily bad, Or the best thing ever, I’m just cautioning that the reality is you have to work for them a bit, which sometimes distracts from sitting down and listening. Some people feel the ritual and effort makes them focus and appreciate the music more, similar to vinyl aficionados. But if tubes achieve anything, it’s that newer doesn’t necessarily mean better, and you don’t necessarily need to wait for the latest upgrade to get an extremely good sound. The Amperex tubes with the “bugle boy” stamp on them are generally regarded as very good, so I’m not saying you should immediately discount them. It’s just MY sample is super sensitive to bumping the table, and I think there’s actually a low, persistent ringing sound just on the edge of my hearing. Could just be mine, but that’s the risk of trying these eBay deals. Researching tubes and watching eBay for good deals can be a fun treasure hunt, but it does take time and might pull your focus away from just enjoying music. I also have a well-recommended JAN tube that’s good but a bit grainy, a second Amperex that’s clearly a dud, and four Vokshod Soviet tubes from the very early 80’s, and I’ve only tried one because it has no ringing and sounds so good (and also my bias pots seem stuck, but the voltmeter readings are good). My first tube that was supposed to come with my custom made amp actually shattered in shipping – I almost cried, and I had to carefully clean splinters of glass out of the amp and RCA jacks! Lastly, all tubes have a lifespan, and eventually burn out... but it’s not so bad, that Soviet tube I mentioned was running in my only amplifier for two years of use, and I still come back to it sometimes. Tubes aren’t automatically “better” or “worse,” they’re just different. You’ll see people raving about how the Woo Audio fireflies amp is so pretty (and not bad sounding either), and has made some great sounding tube amps as their flagships, and Sennheiser’s $60k HE-1 Orpheus “system” includes an amp with eight tubes of comparable quality to the best Telefunken tubes. Sennheiser also put the tubes inside of quartz vials to protect them from EMI... it’s actually an electrical hazard to have bare tubes out in the open where you can touch them during operation, not to mention leaving them to be like antennas for the squelches and squeaks of cellphone texts and other wireless signals. So, I don’t hate tubes, I just think it’s worth understanding what the reality is like. If you do decide on checking out tubes, I do like Woo Audio, Felix Audio, Glenn’s custom tube amps, and I do hope someday to hear a Darkvoice. For beginners, I really like Garage1217, which is a small business in the US that follows a similar design as the Bravo and Indeed amps (and my SET hybrid), except it comes with most of the capacitor and design upgrades you would eventually want from a Bravo. I would also recommend something to act as a Faraday cage or an EMI Shield to go over the tube.

Sorry for the late response but I just wanted to thank you for all the information you shared with me. I will definitely refer back to this in the future when I start to get into you. Thanks a ton!

I would love if this unit had multiple Inputs. It would be great to be able to plug at least two or three sources into it since it can be used as a preamplifier.

Single ended can be built just as powerful and clean as balanced. Balanced with todays tech is just a money making scam.
like The guy who posted this message to which you also had replied, I too mean “today’s tech”. But the 299 for the thd amp is a midrange price imo. It’s single ended and it has better numbers than many older balanced amps. So imo, it’s a waste of money if you buy a balanced amp spending more than 300 thinking it would be better than the single ended.

But the balanced out on the 789 is better, assuming that's what you're talking about and not the One.
search The balanced output allows for a much higher power output with slightly less distortion, making the balanced output cleaner at the same relative volume as the single ended. Of course, the difference isn't audible at these levels. The 789 is already a great example of how a balanced connection can give you better performance. And it should be noted "fully" or "true" balanced is not what we're talking about here in regards to the 789 (the engineer mentioned it didn't need to be because there would be no benefit), it's all about the connector. OP is correct in that single-ended output can be engineered to be just as powerful and clean as a fully balanced setup as far as our ears can tell, but that doesn't mean it's always "just a money making scam." For example, check out the Topping A90, which is even better than the 789 for a similar price (pre Drop price reduction) and better balanced output performance.
