more_vert
So I've been thinking of exploring the world of pencils and wanted to get some feedback from everyone. Do you have any pencils that are a "must try"?

Here are a few that have caught my eye so far:
Ticonderogas
Palomino Golden Bears (already have the blackwings)
General's Semi-Hex
Nataraj Bold
Staedtler Noris Eco HB
Tombow Mono 100 HB
Also, I have become obssessed with this great YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJJOStpzNewBJ0XfhRSsmfw
While we're at it, add any reccomendations for sharpeners and erasers you also enjoy! I look forward to reading your suggestions and sharing any acquisitions I may come across.

Some incredible suggestions here! I've been looking for the best cheap pencil sharpener and found lots of good results on youtube. Most people seem to love the Kum automatic sharpener, but there are so many to choose from. This pencil sharpener video helped but is the Masterpiece worth it? Agreed with all above on the Blackwing.

I always seek out pencils without erasers. I’m just as picky about how I erase as how I write. My personal pencil preferences include: Bugle 1816 #2 by Musgrave (USA), Dragonfly 8900 HB by Tombow (Japan), and Academic Writing 9606 HB by Kitoboshi.

I like to draw and have tried maybe hundreds of different pencils. After a couple of years of testing my conclusion is that the best pencils out there are the Caran d'Ache Grafwood and Swiss Wood. I use them primarily for drawing, but they are great for writing and taking notes to.

Lead pencils are superior to regular pencils. They are much more convenient because they don't need to be sharpened constantly and don't get dull tips. Some I recommend are:
  1. Uni Kuru Toga, which has a rotating tip for a sharper tip.
  2. Rotring Rapid Pro, 600, or 800. They are all great quality pens. One has a retractable tip and the other two have a lead hardness grade indicator, for different types of lead.
  3. Zebra DelGaurd, which has lead break protection.
In addition, the first two options are made out of metal, providing great quality, feel, and center of balance.

Agreed about the uni kuru toga. It’s the only mechanical I use.

Call me a heathen, but Amazon Basics brand pencils are excellent for everyday use, a real value. They have a hard case, sharpen evenly, and the graphite sticks are continuous--I've never had a "lead" break when sharpening.
