mon1kaAssuming DT 990s fit the same as my 770s they shouldn't need a pad swap. These need the pad swap because the stock pads aren't quite thick enough. These pads are pretty solidly thick and the material is quality. I'm a fan of velour earpads and the hybrid nature of these keep the velour from absorbing all of the warm sounds while still letting me have my preference. I didn't give it enough listening time with the stock pads to determine if the sound is indeed muffled on the high end. Obviously it's up to you but pad swaps can change the sound signature of headphones and the stock pads on the 770s at least are fantastic, so looking for some OEM or OEM-equivalent replacements if your pads are wearing out for your 990s would be my recommendation. In terms of overall feel though these are pretty heavy. That's my biggest problem with them I think is that they just feel like they have a lot of weight and the headband isn't really doing a lot of work to relieve strain. These headphones attach with clamping force, which is fine in general, but they're too heavy to really get away with it entirely I think. Additionally, the stock tightness is too much but the other reviews of this that say they can't stretch it over the box were being too careful with them. You can just bend them a little more open with your hands. It feels like a steel band (thus the weight), you're not going to break it. I even over-bent mine and bent them a little tighter again and they're totally fine. In fact, the biggest complaint I have about the build quality is really the adjustment where it's just a little too loose and will fall when hanging on my headphone hook to being fully open every now and then. This can affect comfort since you aren't necessary able to have the size dialed in all the time like you would want. Wrote a little more than I really intended to but hopefully that's the answer you were looking for.
