Not sure how Nikon ended up on top, I know canon has been slipping lately on new releases but I think Sony is leading the industry in innovation right now. Prove me wrong?

mbeal5068Depends whom you're referring to--people who like to buy cameras and take pictures, or people who make their living with one. The latter category is decidedly Nikon, followed closely by Canon. By the end of this year, the big three will all have competing high-end mirrorless cameras in full production. That won't mean a lot to people who cover major news and sporting events or fashion photographers because mirrorless cameras offer very little advantage over traditional DSLR cameras and even less in the way of incentives to switch over to them.
Mirrorless cameras are cheaper to build--that's an advantage to the manufacturer, not the consumer who pays the same regardless. Weight and dimension differences (for full frame) are insignificant at this point--yes, you can make cameras much smaller, but hand-size will always be the same on average. For someone looking to purchase their first high-end camera--meaning someone without a large collection of legacy lenses and bodies, mirrorless is a reasonable choice, and at this time, Sony is probably the best choice because they're well into their third design iteration (and regardless of where Nikon and Canon end up in their mirrorless races, neither will have as many lenses ready as Sony does now).
Meanwhile, for a family guy looking to fill the internet with a zillion pics of his kids, an APSC camera with a kit zoom lens (Nikon or Canon) is still going to be the best bang for his buck.
Prove ME wrong ;- )
