I have the FX-888 analog and it's pretty nice. Seeing as the digital one is the same machine but with a different control method I can't see it being any better. Maybe if the digital part was hooked up to an accurate temperature reading of the tip, but as it is it would just be harder to control. My school has the Weller WES and it's by no means bad to use either. Though if you get it get one of the Hakko style tip cleaners, things are bloody magic.

CommunistWitchDrFX-888 here. From what I hear it's head over heels better to use than the 888D. The digital one has some weird preset thing going on, and a simple turn of the dial is so much more efficient. Only problem is the FX-888 was discontinued for the 888D, so finding a way to massdrop the non-digital will be tricky.I really do like the Hakko irons better than the Weller ones though, despite my college being all "WELLER IS THE BEST, ONLY BUY WELLER".

Stevo32792Yeah presets like that aren't cool. If they had designed it with digital control and and a rotary encoder that would have been much better.
