Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

So I've been looking into getting 64 audio iems for some time now and this drop looks like the perfect time to grab some. Quick question though, is it worth it to shell out a little bit more money for the U6s? I haven't really seen a direct comparison between the two and I'm curious to know how the U6 matches up against the U4SE. Any advice would be great since this is pretty much my first mid-range headphone.
Having owned the U4SE and tried the U6, I found that the U6 tend to have a more balanced tonality than the U4SE, and it tends to suit more to the songs I listen to (Mostly jazz, and a mix of old Pop songs as well as rock)
If you're into it, we actually have some FR measurements down. It's not the best, nor the industry standard (we're aiming to rework the whole database to an industry compliant standard soon someday) But it should help you get a general idea of what sounds like what. Currently we have 325 IEMs and slowly more would be coming
Green would be the U4SE, and yellow would be the U6.
If you want to see more FR measurements you can check out Crinacle's thread on Head-Fi. He currently has 325 measurements there, and others (myself included) tries to bolster the numbers for quite a while now. I'd like to paste the link here but I don't know whether i'll violate the rules or not
I would also like to add that measurements are not the be-all-end-all method of knowing what sounds like what. Some IEMs are really sensitive to insert depth, and when you go custom or universal it'll change significantly. Furthermore, from one brand to the other, even though FR looks quite similar, they will sound different (especially considering that they might use a different driver setup altogether.
Also, it's strongly not recommended to cross-compare one measurement with the others. Other folks will usually have different measurement methods. Thus, sometimes difference can be found and it's been a main source of dispute among many simply because they don't acknowledge the fact
Now, as for your treble, I do find that the U6 has some peaks that gives a more tizzy feeling on some tracks, especially hotly mastered rock songs. Depending on your tastes, they might sound a little harsh if your listening volume is very high, but it's very engaging in a more appropriate listening levels
I would still recommend you to demo these 2 though. If you're in Asia I can point you out to somewhere (Better yet if you're Singapore based haha).
Judging by your preference, the U8 might just suit you better, but I'm afraid you'll find it too dark. Mind if I ask what IEMs/headphones you come from? It will give me a better idea on where you come from and hopefully helps to point out which one's the better option
Just for info, I kind of prefer neutral-ish sound nowadays (HD800 is daily driver at home, UE7 for mobile use while I wait for my UE18+) and I listen to a mix of everything. Currently I enjoy a lot of jazz and acoustic tracks, with an occasional rock songs spicing up things. I try to be as neutral as possible when reviewing, but still. I might just miss a thing or two whenever it comes to comparing things I've demoed
Sorry if it ended up being far too long. There's quite a lot to be talked about when discussing preferences, and these 2 IEMs just have a lot of cool aspects to be discussed as well :p
