I've had one of these for a few weeks now, and I must say I'm really enjoying it.
I've dropped maybe $75 on various mods -- dedicated MOSFET to supply the heatbed (or else you risk burning out the mainboard), a better 30A power supply (the one that came with it is 20A nominal, but closer to 15) and the like. Good thing is that a lot of the structural improvements can be printed -- all you're spending there is time (and filament). So far it hasn't been 'great' at printing, but I got it mostly as a tinker-machine, so it's been a lot of fun.

That being said -- order it from GearBest for $160. It's incredibly overpriced on Massdrop.

RunawayThe A8's my first and only printer, so I'm maybe not the most reliable source. I've heard good things about the Prusa mk2 and the Ultimakers, though, so those might be good to look into if you're hoping for a printer that "just works".

RunawayMy honest opinion is you simply cannot cheap out on a 3D printer. It's not like printing to an ink jet or laser. You have to be willing to learn and have some degree of mechanical know-how, especially if you assemble a kit. Let me say I bought a $600 one off Amazon. Complete garbage. I sent it back and spent $2k on a MakerGear and haven't regretted it since. With the exception of some filament jams and 1 nozzle clog (ALL 3D printers will do this. Part of the learning that comes with owning one) it's printed everything I've thrown at it without any problems. I'd only get a kit like this if you're very mechanically inclined and understand electronics to address the problems other members have mentioned. Just ,my 2 cents.

nukenrgNothing comes cheap, not yet at least, was just wondering since I would love to print some things I have made, but the online printing services would charge me an arm and a leg, for that kinda money you can buy a printer. As in "if you print a lot do it yourself" rather than spending a ton of money to have it printed.
