After the last drop failed I did this on my own and built it into a ipad air case with a flip out stand. I also bought the front of an iPad Air so it looks really polished. It looks pretty sweet. This way I can carry it around as the cover is hard and soft.
I used abusemark's driver board as it completely usb power and portable so my laptop can power it. Also Abusemarks board is only $35
Here is my twitter post about it with photos.

Update: A couple people asked me about my proj. I used this case.:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00G4EBO24/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
NOTE: because display port is a bit too high for case you will probably need a dremel to get it to fit. That wouldn't really have taken very long but I was in a hurry so I just have board sticking out about 1/2" and then covered it in liquid electrical tape so it is black to match and won't short. It still looks really sweet
UltiI out of town for a while without it but it literally looks exactly like the case from Amazon with a black iPad Air in it. I got the black iPad air front glass which makes it look identical to the case on Amazon and the pictures there. The only difference is the home button is just a whole but you could fill it with anything black. I didn't bother filling it.
So just to drive the point home there isn't anything to see the case is minimal and no modifications other than 4 screw holes in back (which are hidden by the cases flap at all times) so it will look exactly like u put an iPad air in that case link above in my previous post it will just have an iPad 3/4 screen
