I listen to music mostly in 192kbps and I dont have a DAC/amp. Mostly use my headphoens for gaming and watching movies otherwise. Would these be wasted on me?

goonersq701 are awesome for gaming, positioning is probably the best you can get out of headphones. just get yourself a decent desktop amp, or at least a sound card like the cheap asus xonar dgx or creative sb-z.

DragonzeanseI tried them both, in my opinion Q701 is far better for positioning, soundstage is wider as well.

goonersYou will hear how terrible 192k MP3's sound with these headphones; they're amazingly detailed. You might not want to get them unless you're prepared to re-rip/re-download all your music in 320k or FLAC.
You also really want an amp to get the most out of these. They're not going to sound very good without one.

DragonzeanseThe AD's are easier to drive and have more of a sense of air, but the treble on it was too much for me. Also agreed with LQDForce, the soundstage (well on my K701 prior) is better on the AKGs. Most stand out for me was that even though both aren't bassy headphones, the AKG was better with handling low notes.

Stillhartcool, thanks for the reply. Any recommendations for a DAC/amp combo that can maybe also power studio monitors for desktop use?

goonersThe Audio-GD ones have pre-amp outs and a switch on the front to switch between the heaphone out and the pre-amp out. I use it to swap between headphones and powered speakers. If your monitors are powered, this would work well for you.
