The instructions weren't 100% correct for my car (VW GTI). It says to turn your car completely off before plugging in the device and wait until the phone picks it up. I had to turn my key, just lights+power but no engine. Then setup went over easily.
Cool device. I'm sure a lot of people will point out that it's pretty slim on features. I'm okay with that, as i'm sure it will improve over time since all the data is there.
I wish it was configurable. It beeps you at 70mph. Cool, my car has this feature already. But i'd like to change that speed. If you exceed 70 to trip this sensor, you're already in the territory to get pulled over (my car has this feature in the dash, so i set the warning to 65).
Also it beeps if you accelerate too fast/brake too hard. It seems this is just a function of acceleration and doesn't factor in how efficient your car actually is at that acceleration. It's a bit generic. Same goes for 70mph sensor..
Overall I bought it for and am completely happy with the $/trip gas cost feature. It's like the first time i uploaded all my banking info into Mint and looked at the piece of the pie chart labelled "Alcohol and Bars".
Next: An "open" version of this technology would be badass. Looking at the amount of data/modifications that something like the VAG-COM system exposes for vw/audi.. I'd pool my development efforts to work towards this at a sub $300 price point.
