qu1mbyAfter missing out on this drop the last time it was posted, I decided to order samples of all of Blackbird's incense pyres from their website, so that I could get a full impression of their product line. Blackbird's pyres are, by far, my favorite brand of incense, at any price point. While House of Matriarch's cones provide a much more noticeable scent with increased projection at a lower unit cost, I prefer the variety of scents that Blackbird offers, as well as their compositions. (I will say, however, that the scent of House of Matriarch's Coco Blanc cones is wonderful and completely unlike anything Blackbird, or any other incense line I've tried, offers.) Of Blackbird's incenses, my top pick would definitely be Gorgo, but I also enjoyed Ai, Muru, Ozo, Scepter, and Sensor.
What stands out to me the most about Blackbird's pyres is their complexity; the somewhat toned-down projection (which is still enough to fill a room for several hours) allows you to appreciate how each scent's composition develops over time (much like a niche fragrance), rather than overwhelming you with the smell of burning wood and a single fragrance note.
As a side-note, another benefit of their subtlety is that Blackbird's pyres are much friendlier to my sinuses than any other incense I've tried.
