I'll toss in my 2 cents here too. I have the Tru Arc 15. For the money, I'd much rather have a Suunto or Silva. There are a number of design features that made me shake my head and ask, "why?"
A comparable Suunto or Silva is much more user-friendly.

JamesXJust personal preference I suppose. Im on my third silva after about 30ish years. The first was lost to carelessness (I stood on it) the second was a victim of me falling down a skree slope and landing on it. otherwise i find them simple to use and accurate.

LazerbladeThat's because it was a different company (Swedish) back then. Now the stuff sold in USA under Silva name has nothing to do with the original company that still makes compasses, but is not not allowed to sell them in USA under its name. Brunton distributed original Silva products here for some time under their name, but I don't believe they do it anymore.

semkaReplying to an old post, but thanks for the info.
Wife and I are going to Scotland for anniversary. I'm going to have to find a shop that has a real Silva. And then convince her that it's worth it.

From the looks of it those Silvas seem to be pretty dangerous. ;-)
I'd be pretty careful when using one.
