If you guys think this is expensive, then you haven't seen the wonderful world of lanyard beads and aftermarket products. I've seen plain titanium beads sell for anything from $80-180. So $40 for an individually made, hand finished bead is pretty cheap.

KiltmanFlIt's just a way to personalize your knife. I've seen many impressive lanyards. Beyond that, it makes the knife harder to lose. You can easily visually inspect if the knife is secured in pocket, plus it makes it less likely to get lost (just like attaching a lanyard to your keys). Also if drop the knife, it can be easily spotted if it is dropped, especially outdoor knives with bright lanyards. I always attach a lanyard to my knives with no clip because it makes the knife more manageable and harder to lose. However I'd say that more than anything it's the aesthetic value; and why not? My knife goes everywhere with me every day, so why not dress it up? It's a chance to personalize your own knife the way you want. As such, it's not for everyone, and not all lanyards are as lavish as others. It's an obvious expression of the owner.
