So, what exactly justifies this kind of pricing? MSRP one thousand dollars? Six hundred dollars at the biggest discount? It's got a somewhat classy body with a nib that looks nice, but...

adoyyIt's a limited edition pen from a well known manufacturer. The price is based on demand. There are plenty of rich people or collectors willing to pay an inflated price for a limited edition design just to have it in their collection. It is similar to any other "luxury" item. It boggles my mind why someone would pay 5k for a quartz Rolex but it still happens.

RP68068This. Expendable income breeds strange habits, yes? Yet, It feels good to have a nice piece of equipment. Whether it be a watch, pen, keyboard, speakers, etc: Massdrop is a catalyst for people who want "high-class" items at a (slight) discount. What constitutes "high-class" is relative so here comes Massdrop and voting system. Shotgun method: they work both ends and find the middle: High-end items like this pen that people seem pretty angry about get slammed, <$200 items get full support usually. Result: market for Massdrop users are practical and don't seem to be willing to spend an extra $x for luxury. They want the best possible at the least cost. Middle-class audiophiles, keyboard enthusiasts with a budget. Niche market but I'm right in that demographic so I'm really enjoying seeing the options. Maybe I'll start learning more about fountain pens, but there's no way in hell I'll start with a $700 one. Andy: please don't ban me.

wontonotnowWhy would he ban you for posting an opinion so eloquently written? Maybe if you came up in here with the hat cocked to the side on that monkey and spewing "naw I'm saying" every third sentence and ending the post with "no ragrets" it would be ban worthy. I appreciate the efforts of Massdrop but I have to stop and ponder about an $800 pen. I scratch my head and tell myself "really?" different strokes for different folks.
