Updates for the next batch of the X-Mid 1P on pre-sale now and arriving in a couple weeks: 1) The 1P now uses the same corner guyouts as the 2P. While they look unassuming, this guyout design is based on first principles (from rock climbing) to automatically equalize the load down the two seams of the tent. Each piece of grosgrain wraps under and up the opposite seam, to cradle the tensioner in an X which can slide slightly to equalize the load. This makes it stronger, lighter, and also better pitching when the stake isn’t quite square to the tent. The X-Mid is likely the first tent to use this superior design. After decades of everyone doing it nearly the same way, innovation is still possible on the lowly guyout.

2) We’ve also switched to thicker 2.5mm cord at the 4 corners that holds extremely well in these tensioners (stronger than almost every other UL tent). Has about twice the holding power versus the typical UL tent setup of 2.5mm cord in LineLoc3s. 3) Includes a mix of 4 ti V stakes and 4 ti shepard hooks, instead of all 8 shepard hooks. The V stakes work better in softer soils, where you can use shepard hooks at the less important stake points (e.g. doorways), or use the shepard hooks at the corners in firmer soils.

dandurstonAre the apex guylines also 2.5mm?
That_Astronomy_GuyApex guylines are still 1.5mm. There is a lot less force at the peaks (vs the corners) so no one is having trouble with the current peak lines slipping or breaking, and 2.5mm adds a noticeable amount of weight because there's a lot more line here. Maybe we should go to 2.0mm but the 1.5mm is working well at the peaks. Probably good to go to 2.0 or maybe 2.5mm if you're planning on more 4 season use, because the peak guylines could take a big load in a snowfall.
