Carefully. These are not nearly as durable as other merino wool products like darn tough or icebreaker. use a mesh bag to avoid undue wear and tear.

How thick are these? would they provide good padding for walking around in boots?

Personally I’d go thicker for boots, especially for tramping (which is Kiwi for ‘hiking’). Great for running and other sports, though. I wear them all summer at work ... ahem, different pairs, though.

The socks that I received in 2019 were only 40% merino wool. The support person responded by giving me $15 in Drop credit, and also said "It appears that these may have been falsely advertised. Our team is currently looking into the root of the issue."

Some drops don't get restocked, the best you can do is request it and wait for an email when it comes back. Good Luck
